What does the current evidence say with regards to eggs and cardiovascular risk?

Does a vegetarian or vegan diet improve or negatively impact sports performance?

Can we improve symptoms of IBS by looking at sleep duration and quality? Should we be making sleep recommendations as well as dietary?

DO YOU PRACTICE EVIDENCED BASED NUTRITION?

There are thousands of interesting nutrition journal articles published every month…

You are well aware that in order to be evidence-based you need to stay on top of the latest in nutrition science, because you know that it is ever evolving.

Whether you are only just beginning in nutrition or you are at the top of the field the importance of keeping up to date in this rapidly changing environment is now more important than ever.

BUT IT ISN’T THAT EASY!

That is exactly why we created The Nutrition Edition. We felt this pain and we saw 3 key problems.

Problem #1.

Everyone is a nutrition expert

It seriously seems like everyone is an 'expert' nutritionist, nutrition coach, dietitian or just enthusiast. Many of these people have less knowledge, expertise or even common sense than you do, yet they are shouting their message from rooftops.

Because you have actually done (or doing) the study, you know that it is not that easy to be the expert, that nutrition science is so nuanced and it isn't black and white. You feel the more you know, the less you feel like you know. We professionals feel like we don't know enough to educate, yet others are out there sharing conflicting, confusing and even dangerous messages. Nutrition science is getting pushed under the rug and trampled over.

Problem #2.

There are more dietitians/nutritionists than there are jobs

The competition is fierce in the workforce, whether you are working for yourself, for someone else, or looking for work. One thing we strongly believe is that the best professionals will always find work.

A standard university degree is not sufficient to separate you from the crowd. It is only through continuous learning and professional development that we can really set ourselves apart. Taking charge of your career is in your hands and it is up to you to take on opportunities to expand your skills, knowledge and practical application. This is really how you can get ahead in the industry.

The more you learn, the more you network, the more you upskill, the more opportunities come knocking.

Problem #3.

Finding Quality Nutrition Research is time-consuming

It is 2019, who actually has the time to spend hours each week 1) thinking about a topic to upskill in, 2) sourcing good nutrition science on that topic, 3) reading and actually understanding that paper and 4) working out what that means from a practical standpoint when working with clients or educating others.

The Nutrition Edition was created out of Marika’s own frustrations with spending hours and hours each week trying to solve problem #1 and #2 by reading more and more. Eventually it occurred that it doesn't matter how much one person knows, we need a system approach, one person will never change the world.

We need as many nutrition professionals, like you,  all sharing the same evidence-based message to really make a difference.
